Hi, I'm Emma... (or Emmy to some :) First, thank you so much for visiting my site. It means so much to me- for coming here, listening to songs and seeing any of you at shows. I'm just beginning.. and I'm freaked out from time to time, but my whole life I have just loved music, loved singing and I feel so lucky to be able to share it with you.
I grew up in Baltimore, MD where I started singing musical theatre and would perform the National Anthem around town. My first gig I was about 8 and I sang in front of about 1000 people at a local little league "opening day" (for baseball).. I had played baseball for a few years before, but the boys were starting to pitch so my mom didn't think I should play with them anymore :) After singing at opening day, I was sooo freaked out that afterwards I didn't want to sing or even talk about it. I just remember my knee shaking uncontrollably and wondering if anyone saw it.. lol luckily I got over my stage fright.
My childhood was definitely full of music. My Oma was a singer and she'd sit at the piano and teach me and my sister songs from "The Sound Of Music." We'd drink tea and eat candy and watch oprah together :)
When I think about those days I can hear Billy Joel's River of Dreams playing and the dance contests we had in the living room. It was a magical time.
Over one summer I got to play molly in a local production of "Annie." The lady who auditioned us, Gloria (I'll never forget it)- she asked me to sing something and I was too shy to sing in front of her. I really really didn't want to, but somehow she got "Happy Birthday" out of me... then I got that part and had a solo. I was shocked.. but now that I think about it.. that teeny little part really gave me a lot of confidence.
My mom has always been a singer & songwriter and she actually made her own CD when I was little.. we almost moved to Nashville too, but she didn't want to move the family, because we were so happy where we were. She's so good too, and helps me with my songs all the time.
Hmmm, what next... Well, I always loved music, but growing up I liked sports too- I played bball, field hockey, was on a traveling jump rope team and started a hip hop dance team in high school... I also had a short stint playing golf in high school haha it was a bunch of girls on the driving range, some of us losing our clubs during our follow through.. ahh the memories.
I got serious about music a little later- I knew it was what meant the most to me. The day my Oma passed away I remember thinking and promising myself I would pursue music. And that's what I've done ever since. It has been so scary too. I'm not gonna lie about that... but I think that's what it's about. you get past the fear and you have to do it, because there's no other option and you know something so good is on the other side. and it's always true, but sometimes, for whatever reasons, some things feel like they take forever to get over.. but maybe that's just growing pains...
My family is everything. My brother and sister, mom and dad, they're my best friends and they've helped with every show, given me advice on every song, every recording and my brother even wrote some of the code for this very website, so I owe them the biggest thank you of all...LOVE YOU!!!
In May 2010 I graduated from Berklee College of Music and moved to NYC. I love nyc so much and plan to move back one day, but I felt like I needed more of a community of songwriters around me in order to grow..so now, I live in Nashville, Tennessee... today, that is ;)
I was always afraid to tell people what I really liked, or felt like, afraid of what people might think, even what type of music I wanted to do and loved. but i'm done with that. ***
Music is my one true love, (i think there's another one out there, just haven't met him yet) and when it's right it's so right, and I live for that and hope to share it with you.
... thank you for listening. Lots of love.
